Characteristic	D. VIII, I+31-33; A. II, I+27-29; P. i+18-19; G.R. 14-15+38-39; CLS. 38-39 all scutes; SLS. 34-36 all scutes; vertebrate 10+14. Adipose eyelid well developed, usually covering most of eye except for a vertical oval centred on pupil. Shoulder girdle margin with a small furrow at uppen end, but no papillae present. Breast scaly. Scales on lateral line totally enlarged into deep scutes. Finlets none.
habitats	Occurs on continental waters. Juveniles associate with drifting seaweed.
Distribution	Confined to the west North Pacific from southern Japan, Korean Peninsula to the East China Sea. It is frequently found in all Taiwanese waters, expecially in the north and east.
Utility	Food fish; marketed fresh, salted or dries.
